Who We Help

You’ve gotten very good at knowing which parts of yourself belong in which room.

The parts you’ve been keeping separate. They all fit here.
anxiety and high-achieving exhaustion

Anxiety & High-Achieving Exhaustion

The kind that wears the mask of ambition. You’ve carried it so long that resting feels dangerous, as if stopping would make everything fall apart, including the version of you people depend on..

CBT · DBT · Somatic Approaches

intergenerational trauma and inherited patterns passed down through families.

Trauma & Intergenerational Patterns

Not all weight arrives labeled. Some of it was handed down without words — the things your parents carried, the history that lives in your body, the reflexes that protected you then and cost you now.

EMDR · Trauma-Informed CBT · Family Systems

family connection, dual cultural identity, and the work of building belonging.

Family, Culture & Identity

The particular work of building a self when two cultures have each claimed some of your shape — and neither has claimed all of it. The work isn’t choosing between them. It is becoming something that is entirely your own.

Family Systems · DBT · Culturally Informed Therapy

“Our clients are not people who have given up. They are people who have been working harder than most, for longer than was ever fair — and are ready to work differently.”

The Leela Mental Health therapy office in Palo Alto
Why Leela

The name comes from a Sanskrit word for the way life unfolds — a life as enacted authorship. Not what happens to you. Something written, moment by moment, from exactly where you are standing.

Leela Mental Health was built because the Bay Area has no shortage of therapists — and a deep shortage of spaces where the particular complexity of building a life here is actually understood. Not just accommodated. Understood.

We work with South Asian and East Asian communities, immigrant families, and people navigating collectivist cultures — the weight of family honor, the grief of a migration that was supposed to be only a gain, the particular exhaustion of being the one who holds it together across two countries and three generations. The Bay Area has a particular shape of this weight. We know it. Here, asking for help does not break anything.

01

Clinically Rigorous

Every modality at Leela has an evidence base — EMDR, CBT, DBT, ERP, and Family Systems. Tested methods, applied with intention. The modality follows the person. Not the other way around.

02

Every Life Arrives in Context

The family system. The cultural background. The migration story. The gap between who someone was raised to be and who they are becoming. That context is not background to the clinical work. It is where the work begins. You do not have to explain any of it here.

03

In the language it happened in.

Many clients carry things that took shape in a language that does not translate cleanly into English. Hindi and Bengali are available when they are needed. What is always available is a room where the whole story fits.

04

Care that isn’t rushed.

A careful caseload. Thoughtful availability. A practice where every client is actually known. The work here is specific to you — and it is not hurried.

Areas of Focus

What brings people here is rarely just one thing.

Each of these is a door. What’s on the other side is specific to you.
01

Anxiety & Burnout

The kind that lives underneath a life that looks, from every angle, completely fine. The hypervigilance. The inability to actually rest. The feeling that stopping means failing.

02

Trauma & EMDR

For experiences that left a mark the world expected you to walk away from. EMDR works at the level where memory is stored — not just recounted.

03

Depression

The kind that lives underneath a life that looks completely fine — because you built the fine life on top of it, and it takes everything to maintain the surface.

04

ADHD in Adults & Teens

For people who spent years being told they weren’t trying hard enough — when the truth was the world wasn’t built for how their brain works. This is the support that was always missing.

05

IVF & Fertility

The grief, uncertainty, and emotional labor of fertility treatment rarely gets the space it deserves. This is that space — without timelines, and without the expectation that you hold it together.

06

Multicultural Youth & Teens

For young people navigating multiple cultures and dual expectations – the exhausting performance of belonging everywhere, fitting nowhere. Their story doesn’t fit one box. Neither should their therapy.

07

Young Adult Therapy

The 20s are not a waiting room. They are one of the most genuinely difficult chapters of a life — and one of the least supported. The work you do now changes the arc of everything.

08

Couples & Family

The patterns that protect us in one relationship follow us into every relationship. Family Systems work helps untangle which patterns are yours, which were inherited, and which still serve you.

09

South Asian & Multicultural

For South Asian, East Asian, and immigrant community members navigating the weight of collectivist cultures — duty, family honor, the cost of need, and the profound work of becoming without erasing where you came from.

You don’t need to know how the story ends before you make the call.

Not an intake form. Not a commitment. A real conversation — with a real person — to find out whether this is where your story fits.
For Referrers

We make referrals straightforward — and we close the loop.

Leela Mental Health is a referral partner for psychiatrists, primary care physicians, school counselors, and HR professionals across the Bay Area. We work with adults, teens, and families navigating anxiety, trauma, cultural stress, ADHD, depression, and major life transitions.

We are out-of-network with most insurers — which means your clients avoid prior authorizations and session limits. We provide detailed superbills for OON reimbursement and work with Lyra Health EAP and Wellfleet SHIP.

We respond to every referral within 48 hours. We confirm whether we are a fit. We follow up when we aren’t — because the referral relationship is not one-way.

Common Questions

What you might be wondering before you reach out.

If your question is not answered here, call or text (650) 206-9448 or email information@leelamentalhealth.com. Every inquiry is answered by a real person.

Do you accept insurance?

Leela Mental Health is an out-of-network (OON) provider. We do not bill insurance directly, but we provide a detailed superbill after each session so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement through your plan. We also accept EAP and SHIP benefits — reach out to confirm your specific plan. As required by the No Surprises Act, we provide a Good Faith Estimate before your first session. No surprises. That’s something we believe in regardless of the requirement.

How much does therapy cost?

Session fees are shared during your free 15-minute consultation call. We provide a Good Faith Estimate before your first session, as required by federal law, so you know exactly what to expect before committing. We don’t publish rates publicly because we’d rather have an actual conversation first — the number matters less than whether we’re the right fit for each other.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. Leela Mental Health offers secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth therapy to clients throughout California — wherever you are in the state, we can work together. In-person sessions are available in Palo Alto at 220 California Ave, Suite 105. Many clients do a combination of both. Telehealth services are provided within California only, by licensed California therapists.

What therapy approaches do you use?

We use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Family Systems approaches. The modality follows you — not the other way around. We don’t fit clients into a framework. We find what works for how your particular mind, body, and life are organized.

Do you offer therapy in Hindi or Bengali?

Yes. Leela Mental Health offers therapy in Hindi, Bengali, and English. For clients who think or feel in a language other than English — who have to translate their inner life before they can even say it — being understood in your first language is not a luxury. It is a clinical necessity. You do not have to translate yourself here.

How do I get started?

The first step is a free 15-minute consultation call — no commitment, no intake form. You can book directly through this website or call us. You will talk to a real person. We’ll figure out together whether this is the right fit — and if it isn’t, we’ll do our best to point you somewhere that is.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session is a conversation, not an intake form. We use it to understand who you are, what you’re carrying, and what kind of support would actually help. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you arrive. You just need to show up.

Who does Leela Mental Health work with?

Leela Mental Health is a therapy practice in Palo Alto working with South Asian, East Asian, Latine, and other immigrant and diasporic communities, as well as clients of all backgrounds, cultures, genders, and identities. The practice sees children, teens, adults, couples, and families, in person in Palo Alto and via telehealth across California. Cultural context is part of how the practice listens from the first session, and there is always room to explain more of your own story.

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate: Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a written cost estimate before your first session. We provide this automatically — no surprises, ever. Read the full notice ➞
